Thomas Cox
Thomas was born in Penarth in 1895. He was the son of Charles William and Lena Annette Cox and the brother of Emma, Alice, Percy, Ivor, Doris and John. In 1911 the family lived at 68 Plassey Street, Penarth. Thomas served in the 4th Battalion, the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was killed in action on 21st June1917 aged 22 and is buried in 1.A. 12. Perth Cemetery (China Wall), Belgium. Thomas ‘Harry’ Cox won an entrance scholarship to the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire. He hoped to become a civil engineer. (information supplied by his niece). A memorial service was held for him at St Augustine’s Church on 22/07/1917 following a parade from Station Approach to the church (from ‘Penarth Times’).
