Osborne Fitzgerald
Osborne was born in Penarth the son of Patrick & Elizabeth Fitzgerald and brother of Henry, Thomas, Margaret, Lilian, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Gordon of 22 Station Rd, Penarth. In 1911 he was an errand boy. Osborne served in “B” Battery. 110th Brigade, the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery. His rank was Gunner (service number 29701).Osborne enlisted at the outbreak of war telling the authorities he was 19 but he was only 17. He had been in France for 3 years and had been gassed twice. He was struck by a fragment of shell 4 days after returning from leave and died next day died of wounds. He died on 5th September 1918 aged 22 and is buried in VII. B. 105., Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L’Abbe.
