Herbert Hill
Herbert Hill was born in Penarth on 26th June 1899. In 1911 he was living at 23 Plassey Street, Penarth with his parents John and Alice Hill, and siblings John, William, Ida and Patricia. From Navy records – Father, John H Hill, 23 Plassey St, Penarth. Herbert served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as a Telegraphist aboard HMS Pembroke and HMS Lion (service number Wales Z/4218). He died of pneumonia on 25th October 1918 at the Royal Naval Hospital, Edinburgh after contracting a chill or flu aboard HMS Lion. His parents were sent for and were with him when he died. Herbert is buried in East of Church, Llandough (St Dochdwy) Churchyard (195).
