Fred Ward
Ernest Frederick Ward was born in Penarth in 1891, the son of Henry and Annie Ward. He was baptised on 10th April 1891, the son of Henry, a seaman, and Annie Ward of Maughan Street, Penarth. In 1911 he was a professional gardener and was a boarder with the family of Charles and Emma Harris of 2 Ditton Hill Terrace, Long Ditton, Surbiton S W, Long Ditton, Surrey. Ernest served in the 3rd Battalion, the Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort’s Own) with the rank of Lieutenant Corporal (service number Z/253). He died of wounds on 19th August 1916 aged 25 and is buried in Plot 2. Row A. Grave 131, Corbie Communal Cemetery Extension.
