Douglas St. G Pettigrew
Douglas St. George Pettigrew was born in Tramore, Co. Waterford. He was educated at Monkton Combe School, Bath and in 1911 was a clerk in his father’s office. He lived at 30 Victoria Road with his parents Robert William and Ella Pettigrew, sister Elle and grandmother Mary Pettigrew. Douglas served in 14th Battalion, attached to 17th Battalion, the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was severely wounded at Thiepval (Battle of the Somme), on 7th October 1916. Douglas died on wounds on 23rd October 1917 aged 25 and is buried at XXII. B. 17., Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.
