Daniel V Davies
Daniel (k/a Danny) was born in Penarth in 1895. The son of Daniel and Mary Jane Davies and brother of Gwilym he lived at 13, Plassey Street, Penarth in 1911 and was employed as a railway engine cleaner. He was engaged to Ethel. Daniel served in the 8th Battalion, the South Wales Borderers. with the rank of Private (service number 3/24524). He was killed in action on 13th July 1918 aged 24 in Salonika and is buried at F. 1244 Karasouli Military Cemetery. He also served in the Dardanelles. A keen footballer, he played for Old Penarth United and then for the Barry Club when they won the Cardiff League in 1914.
