John Angel Gibbs
John was born in Cardiff in 1881 the son of John Angel Gibbs and Elizabeth (nee Scriven). In 1911 he was living at Eastcliffe, Park Road, Penarth with his wife Susan Gladys Gibbs (nee Morel). John served in the 9th Battalion, the Welsh Regiment and was awarded the DSO. His rank was Major. John was killed in action on 20th September 1917 aged 37 and is buried at H. 25., Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery. Before the war he worked with his brothers at Messrs. Gibbs & Co., shipowners. Headlands School for the training of boys for the sea and engineering professions (especially sons of men from the Welsh Regiment who had died) was established in his memory by his parents
