Jack Searle
Jack Searle was born in Penarth on 15th October 1898, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Searle. In 1911 he was living at 35 John Street with his widowed mother and his sister, Lizzie. He was a school newsboy. His siblings, Emily, James and Joseph were living in a children’s home in Dinas Powys as their mother was apparently too unwell to look after all the children. Jack served in the 29th Division, the Royal Field Artillery and died of wounds received on 5th May 1917. He was 18 years of age.
