George J C Jolliffe
George John Chatterton Jolliffe was born in Penarth in 1887. In 1901 he was living at 92 Windsor Road with his parents Charles and Mary Jane Jolliffe and siblings Thomas, Frederick, Valentine, Harold and Winifred. On 11th February 1914, George John Jolliffe born 1886, occupation farming, last resident in England emigrated to Canada from Bristol. He sailed on the “Royal Edward” and his destination port was St Johns, Newfoundland. George served in the Eastern Ontario Regiment, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and his rank was Private (service number 51240). He was killed in action on 8th May 1915 aged 29 and is commemorated on Panel 10, Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
