Ernest Francis Denman
Ernest was born in Penarth. In 1911 the family lived at 63 Windsor Road – his mother Emily Denman, siblings May, Gwen, Harold, Lilian and Douglas and cousin Sophia Chivers. Ernest and his father Francis were not at home on the census day. The death of his father, Francis, in Cardiff was registered in Q1 (January / February / March) 1914. Ernest served in the Mercantile Marine as Third Mate aboard S.S. “Narragansett” (Greenock). He died on 16th March 1917 aged 23 as the result of an attack by an enemy submarine and is commemorated on Tower Hill Memorial.
