David Bousie
David was born in Cogan in 1897, the son of David, a sailor, and Rhoda Bousie. He was baptised on 20th September 1897 at St Dochdwy’s Church, Llandough-juxta-Penarth. In 1911 the family was living at 1 Old Cawnpore St, Cogan. David lived there with his parents, half-sister Jessie Dwyer and siblings William, John, Stanley, Phyllis and Rhoda. In 1901 he was living at 1 Cogan Row with his parents, siblings Robert, Jessie, and William, his grandparents Charles and Mary Ann Norman, and aunt Maria Norman. David was employed at the Taff Engine Sheds, Penarth Docks. Member of Holy Nativity Church (From ‘Penarth Times’). He served in the 1st Battalion the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) with the rank of Private (service number 24133).David died in Kamptee, India on 10/07/1916 of wounds received and the effects of heat aged 19 and is buried in Chakrata Cemetery. He is also commemorated on Face 14. Madras 1914-1918 War Memorial, Chennai.
