C Humphrey R Thomas
Charles Humphrey Rittsen (Rittson) Thomas was born in Penarth in 1892 and baptised on 22nd January 1893, the son of George, a stockbroker, and Henrietta Elizabeth Thomas of 60 Plymouth Road. In 1911 he was an apprentice engineer and lived at 118 Plymouth Road with his parents George and Henrietta Thomas and his brothers of John, Edward and Stephen. Charles served in the 3rd Battalion (attached 2nd Battalion), Prince of Wales’s Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment) with the rank of Lieutenant. He died of wounds on 16th June 1915 aged 22 and is buried at I. E. 15., Ypres Town Cemetery Extension. He enlisted in August 1914 giving his occupation as an engineer.
Charles and John Thomas are commemorated by the West (Warrior) Window in St Augustine’s church.
