Arthur Thomas
Arthur John Thomas was born in Penarth in 1895 the son of John and Rose Thomas. He was baptised on 11th June 1895, the son of John, a coal trimmer, and Rose Thomas of 40 Maughan Street. In 1901 Arthur was living at 43 Arcot Street with his parents John and Rose (an American citizen) and siblings Gwendoline, David and Rose. In 1911 John and Rose Thomas with their children Gwendoline, David, Rose, Hilda, Lucy, William and George Wilfred were living at 15 Arcot Street. There is no trace of Arthur. He served in the 8th Battalion, the Lincolnshire Regiment with the rank of Private (service number 43316). Arthur died of wounds on 26th April 1917 aged 22 and is buried in II. G. 7., Aubigny Commumal Cemetery Extension. He is also commemorated on a grave in Penarth Cemetery and on the Roll of Honour at St Cyres School. He formerly served in the South Staffordshire Regiment (service number 13424)
