Alfred F Aberg
Alfred Felix Aberg was born in Penarth in 1899 and was baptised at Llandough on 22nd February 1899. His father’s profession was given as a coal tipper and the family lived at 118 New Plassey Street. He was the son of Gustaf and Margaret (née Jenkins) Aberg and brother of E Margaret, Frederick, Gustaf, Alexander, Gladys and Minnie. The family lived at 118 Plassey Street in 1901, later moving to 119, Windsor Road. Alfred was a member of Holy Nativity and Tabernacle Baptist churches. His brother Sgt Gus Aberg, RFA, was a POW in Germany. Either Alfred or Gus was employed by Mr JT Walker of Penarth (from ‘Penarth Times’) He served as a Private in the 1st/6th Battalion, King’s (Liverpool ) Regiment, service number 88842. Alfred died of wounds on 10th April 1918 and is buried at VII. C. 3. Lapugnoy Military Cemetery. He is also commemorated on the family grave in St Augustine’s churchyard.
