Alexander Whitley
Alexander Fauvel Whitley was born in Penarth, the son of Edwin & Jessie MacIntosh Whitley and brother of Constance, Harry and Marguerite. In 1911 he was a coal merchant’s clerk and the family lived at 14 Albert Crescent, Penarth. He was baptised on 19th May 1892, the son of Edwin John, a ship-broker, & Jessie McIntosh Whitley of Fauvel, Clive Road. He served in the 49th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery and his rank was Lieutenant. Alexander was killed in action on 23rd July 1916 aged 26 and is buried at I. A. 31., Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt. He is also commemorated on grave K79 in St Augustine’s Churchyard.
