Beresford H Vyvyan
Beresford Ha(o)ughton Vyvyan was born in Penarth in 1893 and was baptised on 16th April 1893, the son of Hugh Norris Vyvyan, a master mariner, and Constance Ethel Vyvyan. In 1901 he was living at 51 Drakefield Road, Streatham, London with his moth Constance (a US citizen) and brothers Hugh and Malcolm. By 1911 the family had moved back to Penarth and Beresford’s parents were living at 53 Stanwell Road with their son Hugh and daughter Gertrude. He served in “A” Battery, 121st Brigade, the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery. His rank was Captain and he was mentioned in despatches. Beresford died of wounds on 18th August 1917 aged 24 and is buried at IV. C. 3., Dozinghem Military Cemetery.
