John Regan
Jack Regan (known as Jack) was born in Penarth on 1st May 1882.In 1901 he was a Grocer’s Warehouse Assistant and lived at 76 Salop Street, Penarth with his parents Michael and Ellen Regan and siblings Thomas, William, Cassie, Margaret and James. In 1907 Jack married Mary Jane Huett. There were six children of the marriage, Douglas John born 1907, Morris Huett born 1909, Marcus born 1910, Nancy M born 1912, Bernard born 1914 and Eileen M born 1916. Unable to trace the family in 1911 census. Jack Regan was a Roman Catholic. He served in 113th Siege Battery, the Royal Garrison Artillery with the rank of Acting Sergeant (service number 288). Jack was killed in action on 31st July 1916 when he was struck in the chest by a piece of shrapnel and died instantly. He is buried at III. F. 11., Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt. From information given by family – Douglas, Maurice, Marcus, Bernard, Nancy and Eileen Regan lived with their widowed mother, who was known as Ginny, at 10 Maughan Street. Jack was a member of Penarth Thistle Rugby Football team and Vice Captain of Penarth Rugby Football Club. He played in 5 games against the Barbarians 1908, 1910, 1911, 1913 & 1914. He was a member of No 4 Company, Glamorgan Royal Garrison Artillery (TA).
