Henry Fitzgerald
Henry was born in Penarth, the son of Patrick & Elizabeth Fitzgerald and brother of Osbourne, Thomas, Margaret, Lilian, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Gordon of 22 Station Rd, Penarth. In 1911 he was a boot repairer. Henry served in “C” Battery. 85th Brigade, the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery. His rank was Gunner (service number 24468). He was killed in action on 20th June 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He was on night duty helping two others carry material into a copse when he was killed by a shell. The others were wounded. He was aged 22 and is buried in I. D. 18., Bronfay Farm Military Cemetery, Bray-Sur-Somme.
